Rules

For convenience, the rules and regulations of the contest were classified under six distinct heads, which are as follows:

Project Timeframe

  • The project will commence on June 1, 2002; with interactive briefing at our Web Page www.infitt.org/ti2002/valaikalam
  • The last date for the submission of the completed project is September  21, 2002, 11:59 PM PST (California time).
  • The results will be announced on September 29, 2002, in an award ceremony to be held at the Tamil Internet 2002.

Salient features

  • The Valaikkalam competition is open to any school kids with a Tamil heritage and to Tamil schools around the world. Kids up to grade X11 (or equivalent) qualify as school kids.
  • Each team is to be represented by one student representative and a minimum of one and maximum of two adult guides - henceforth called a Project Leader and/or a Mentor respectively.
  • The team size is not to exceed 30 students and 2 mentors
  • Students could participate in either of the two categories:
    • School Category: All the team members are required to be from the same school. The Project Leader/ Mentor, too, has to be a teacher from the same school.
    • Open Category: Members could be from different schools and classes (the upper limit being Grade XII), from different cites. The Project leader/ Mentor could be a teacher from any school, a parent or any other adult.
  • A school could have any number of teams participating in the competition.
  • A student cannot be a member of more than one team.
  • Each entry would be judged only in the category in which it is entered.
  • The entry has to be Tamil related. 'Tamil Related' being defined as the contents being predominantly in Tamil OR about Tamil and Tamil related subjects.

Submission of Entries

  • Entries are to be submitted by using the form given here.
  • The last date for submitting the entries is September 21, 2002.


Evaluation of Entries

  • A team of eminent Tamil from various walks of life, known for their eclectic experience and insight, will review all the entries. The management of 'Valaikkalam' by Kids will select this team of judges.
  • The decisions of the judges are final and binding.

Declaration of results

  • The results will be announced on September 29, 2002, in an award ceremony to be held at the Tamil Internet 2002 Conference.
  • The winning as well as other meritorious projects will be brought together in the form of one site, www.infitt.org/ti2002/valaikalam
  • The decision of 'Valaikkalam' and that of the judges, on all matters relating to the competition, is final and binding on team members, their project leaders/ mentors, parents, teachers and schools. No correspondence will be entertained in this regard.
  • INFITT holds exclusive ownership and copyright to all material submitted and may use the same for any purposes whatsoever, including but not restricted to www.infitt.org/ti2002/valaikalam
  • Credit shall be given to individual teams only in cases deemed suitable by the Board members of INFITT.
  • INFITT also reserves the right to distribute the entries, with or without modifications in them, to third parties.
  • INFITT reserves the right to modify, extend and/or improve the entries received to make it appropriate for public display.
  • Use of copyrighted material is prohibited. In cases where the participants feel the need of using such material, they are required to seek the necessary permission for the use of that copyrighted material. At the same time it is emphasized that all entries should be original and should not include text, pictures, images, sound and data created by other individual or group of individuals.
  • The 'Valaikkalam' management reserves the right to disqualify an entry if it thinks that the entry does not comply with any of the following:
    • Submission of incomplete registration and other necessities.
    • Unauthorized access to other participant's templates
    • Use of copyright material in the project
    • Misuse of help aids e.g. email facility, bulletin boards, chat rooms etc.
    • Submission of entries in any form other than that asked for
    • Violation of the rules of the competition
  • Tamil Web Page by Kids is the exclusive property of INFITT.
  • INFITT Board of Directors and Committee members and 'Valaikkalam' organizers and their Family members are not eligible to participate in the competition.
  • The 'Valaikkalam' competition is open only to Tamil Students from schools and Tamil children residing around the world.
  • The jurisdiction for any matter relating to the 'Valaikkalam' Competition shall be with a competent court of International Laws.
